40.2% of Filipino adults are overweight and obese
According to a 2021 study of the Department of Science and Technology–Food and Nutrition Research Institute (DOST-FNRI), if no action is taken, the overall rates for overweight and obesity are projected to further rise. Obesity arises when excessive calorie intake, especially from unhealthy foods, surpasses the body's ability to burn them off through activity. If not addressed, obesity increases the risk of serious diseases and health conditions.
